B&W vs. Color
I always give my clients both b&w and color images, but I truly believe that some pictures are just meant to be B&W. Recently I have noticed that hardly ever do my clients order B&W! I am just shock by this. However , you would not be shocked if you have been in my house, every picture hanging is in B&W. I truly do love both, but for some reason, maybe its the neutrality of b&w, I lean towards hanging it over color . I have heard people say in the past that b&w can be cheating. And lets be honest , it can make the worst of pictures look professional quality & whats wrong with that! Even for professionals there are certain situations where the option of B&W can save an image & sometime we need saving too. For instance a wedding that is dark and the entire dance floor is purple, we don't want Barney looking people....b&w can give all these images continuity. Another example is if you are shooting and you stumble into a moment happening. When shooting in manuel you might not have time to change your settings and get the light just right, but you still want to capture that moment...you take the picture. If the color or lighting is awful... b&w saves the day. And one last reason why I love b&w.....if you are fashion challenged and your family looks like they have all been dipped in a different can of paint.........b&w. All of a sudden, the family that should not have gotten within two feet of each other blend perfectly well. And just say'in even though all my family portraits are b&w I would appreciate it if you would refrain from calling me fashion challenge if you think we are, that is a door I do not invite you to walk through. anywhoo...
I shot this lifestyle session ( a popular style of photography , I can blog about later ) last month and simply could not figure out which I loved more the b&w or color, so I will let you be the judge. Oh & a big thanks to the Baird Family for allowing me into your home to capture these sweet nontraditional moments.

I love the color one of Hannah here
This last picture had horrible light. I was walking out the door to go see what Dad and brother were doing and let mom have some time with Hannah. I shot the pic anyway and I glad I did. The light on Hannah's face is great , but mom was a funny color from the shadow ...b&w saves the day.
