Good Planning

I don't just take the pictures....I am also your second opinion!  Chana and I talked about every aspect of this shoot. That coupled with their love for each other and giggly personalities made this shoot amazing. Oh and another fun fact about this shoot.....this is not just any old piece of land, but the future site of their new home.  It was all just perfect.

Thanks Stahl Family

B&W vs. Color

I  always give my clients both b&w and color images, but I truly believe that some pictures are just meant to be B&W.  Recently I have noticed that hardly ever do my clients order B&W!  I am just shock by this.  However , you would not be shocked if you have been in my house, every picture hanging is in  B&W.  I truly do love both, but for some reason, maybe its the neutrality of b&w,  I lean towards hanging it over color .  I have heard people say in the past that b&w can be cheating. And lets be honest , it can make the worst of pictures look professional quality & whats wrong with that!  Even for professionals there are  certain situations where the option of B&W can save an image & sometime we need saving too. For instance a wedding that is dark and the entire  dance floor is purple, we don't want Barney looking people....b&w can give all these images continuity.  Another example is if you are shooting and you stumble into a moment happening. When shooting in manuel you might not have time to change your settings and get the light just right, but you still want to capture that moment...you take the picture.  If the color or lighting is awful... b&w saves the day.  And one last reason why I love b&w.....if you are fashion challenged and your family looks like they have all been dipped in a different can of paint.........b&w.  All of a sudden, the family that should not have gotten within two feet of each other blend perfectly well.   And just say'in even though all my family portraits are b&w I would appreciate it if you would refrain from calling me fashion challenge if you think we are, that is a door I do not invite you to walk through.  anywhoo...

I shot this lifestyle session ( a popular style of photography , I can blog about later ) last month and simply could not figure out which I loved more the b&w or color, so I will let you be the judge.   Oh & a big thanks to the Baird Family for allowing me into your home to capture these sweet  nontraditional moments.

I love the color one of Hannah here

This last picture had horrible light. I was walking out the door to go see what Dad and brother were doing and let mom have some time with Hannah.  I shot the pic anyway and I glad I did.  The light on Hannah's face is great , but mom was a funny color from the shadow ...b&w  saves the day.

for rich or poor in rain and shine

KELSEA+RYAN

Distance can't keep these two apart and neither can the rain. Kelsea and Ryan on September 29th in the rain, said there I do's in front of their soaking wet family and friends.  This was truly a wedding that I would dare anyone to try to forget.  It was only sprinkling as the bridesmaids made there way down.  It was not until Kelsea hit the door that it really started to rain...and rain and rain. Without any hesitation, as everyone cheered her on & her groom waited with open arms, this precious bride stepped right out into the rain.   By the time the rings were on, we were in a full down poor, but there was nothing but smiles and lot and lots of laughter. Nothing was cut short or rushed, every word was said. And as if a faucet was shut off,  right after the ceremony the rain stopped and the seemingly endless dancing began.  Everyone kicked off there shoes and with mud on there feet celebrated these two very special people.   I am so thankful that I got to capture this truly awesome day.  The rain only made it that much sweeter.

And thank you to my sweet sister in law who second shot this wedding with me, risking all her equipment in the rain just to get the shot.  If you are in Houston or surrounding areas, she is your gal.

its the little things that make life BIG

My kiddos are getting so big these days.  They are 6,5 & 3.  For the longest time, it seemed, I always had a baby.  Two at one time really, with the boys being so close together.  But as happy as I am that we are now watching our family grow, I still ( like I think many women do, hope I am not alone here ) long to have a baby around. This is where newborn shoots come in real handy.  For a few short hours I get to love on a precious new tiny person.  All  my senses are heightened as I notice those precious wrinkles , hear the soft sighs that they make when totally content, feel how soft and perfect their skin is to the touch and smell that oh so fleeting sweet clean baby smell.  I get to sway them to sleep and slowly put them down and capture the moments when they are most a ease.  What a blessing.  Thank you to all my clients who let me steal these moments with your families.  I am so thankful that you invite me into you lives for just a bit so I can capture a time in your life that you don't ever want to forget.  Oh, and I do have to say....that as soon as the baby start crying and we have the shots, I am more than happy to give them back.

ITS ALL IN THE FAMILY

I got a call from my sister in law the other day in desperate need of a family photo for her kiddos school project.  Tiffany is a fellow photographer and she started the conversation by saying..."The cobblers kids have no shoes."  Well of course she can't take a family picture, with her in it at least.  I jumped at this opportunity because how often do you get to take pics of another photographer who will critique you and give you true constructive criticism !  Usually a client, if they are unhappy will never say so, and that makes it hard for me to do my job well.  I love every opportunity to learn and grow in photography.  You are never done learning I don't care how old you are or how good you think you are at something. With each session, I look to shoot in a new creative way and I love seeing the results each time.  Really each shoot takes on a life of its own and what I love the most is what a reflection it is of that family.  My favorite pictures out of this bunch are the ones with Jackson trying to make Logan smile & the one of my brother laughing.  It may not be your fav, but its mine because I know the sweet relationship that these two brothers have and I know how much my brother always make she laugh.  They are just precious, I hope when you are getting your portraits taken or just taking pictures of your kiddos you find the joy in the not so perfect ones, the ones where you all might not be looking at the camera or smiling, the ones that capture a moment of laughter or a interaction between sweet siblings.  Those, the unperfect ones are perfect to me.
